Practical Life is an important part of Montessori education, helping students develop independence, responsibility, confidence and a connection to the world around them. These lessons often include hands-on activities such as gardening, food preparation and caring for the classroom environment.

This week, we extended Practical Life beyond the classroom by welcoming community helpers and other professionals to share about their work. These special guests gave our younger students the opportunity to connect their learning to real-life experiences, ask questions and better understand the many ways people contribute to their community. It was a wonderful example of Montessori learning in action by connecting children to the real world while inspiring curiosity and purpose.

A big thank you to the Rocklin Fire Department and our local EMTs for visiting MMCA, sharing their knowledge and teaching our students about safety and the important work they do in our community. We are so grateful for their time and service!

Guest Speaker Syd Fong gave a wonderful presentation about recycling.

Guest speaker Airforce Member Brianne Roudebush visited the Yellow Room.

Guest speaker, electrician Mr. Moore, visited the Yellow Room.

Real Responsibility Builds Confidence

Responsibility is about developing independent habits now that will carry students through every stage of life. This week, we are encouraging students to take full ownership of their daily routines, like packing their own gear and managing assignments. At home, you can support this by stepping back, resisting the urge to remind constantly, and letting them feel the confidence of managing things on their own!
