Teen CERT/Mock Disaster Event

Today’s event was a success!  Seeing the culmination of all the hard work from our 7th and 8th grade students, under the guidance of our outstanding teacher, Mrs. Laura Crouch, is always a special day for our school.  Our students in 2nd- 6th grade also learn important skills during this annual event.  Thank you to all of the parents/guardians/staff who volunteered to help the morning go smooth.

Exciting News:  The Governor's Office of Emergency Services sent the head of "California Volunteers". All the disaster/preparedness volunteer programs like CERT and LISTOS throughout the state are under his purview. He's also the point person for the National CERT Association. He's meeting with Homeland Security and FEMA soon and is presenting our program to them as a potential model program for their youth programs departments.

Way to Go Teen CERT!

It’s Teacher Appreciation Week Next Week Organized by Our PTA!

Dear Students & Parents,

We will be celebrating our annual teacher and staff appreciation week May 6- May 10th. This year the theme is Totally 90's!  Below is an itinerary of weekly events along with a suggestion of ways you can contribute to the fun of showering our teachers and staff with the appreciation they deserve!

*** The Tuesday-Thursday ideas are all optional suggestions to participate in the daily activities.

If you have other ideas or would like to show your appreciation to teachers and staff in different ways - please feel free!

We can't wait for all the fun to begin!

Our Teacher's and Staff are All That, Radical, Awesome and of course Totally Fly!

State CAASPP Testing

We are starting the annual State Testing (CAASPP) next week.

Week of May 6th:  Blue & Red (3rd grade only)

Week of May 13th: Coral, Aqua, & Green

Week of May 20th: Orange, and 5th and 8th grade Science (CAST)

A good test can identify a child's strengths and weaknesses and show where he or she needs extra help. At school, we talk about the purpose and importance of testing. And we practice various test-taking skills such as following directions and using time wisely. There are also some things parents/guardians can do to help your child do better on tests.

Before a Test, Children Need:

ƒ a full night's sleep

ƒ a good breakfast

ƒ comfortable school clothing

ƒ a little understanding if they're anxious or upset.

Helpful Tips and Reminders on How to Talk With Your Child About Tests:

ƒ Mention that you value tests because they are designed to help children learn better.

ƒ Encourage your child to take the test seriously and do as well as possible, but reassure your child that he or she will not be in trouble for items missed.

ƒ Never add pressure in the form of threats or rewards attached to test results. Do not make comparisons to siblings.

ƒ Emphasize that every child is unique in terms of strengths and learning styles and deserves to be loved for that uniqueness.

Snowie King - May 6th (rescheduled May 6th!)

MMCA Families,

Snowie King felt so bad about the mix-up this last Monday and wanted to make it up to the kids, so they will be coming out this coming Monday.

We are so sorry if your kiddos were a little bummed on Monday.
