Mock Disaster
Today was our Teen CERT program’s Mock Disaster. It was an exciting culmination of many months of hard work, dedication, and training by our 7th and 8th grade students under the leadership of instructor Mrs. Crouch.
It was incredible to watch our students confidently put their skills into action, applying everything they’ve learned while being evaluated in real time from the Teen CERT program. We are proud of their teamwork, leadership and commitment throughout this learning experience.
Our 2nd–6th grade students also had a fantastic time participating as “victims,” while learning valuable lessons about emergency preparedness and response.
And of course, the realistic injury make-up was a huge highlight of the day! What an unforgettable learning experience for everyone involved.
A huge thank you to our dedicated volunteers and staff who helped make today such a success, and an especially BIG thank you to our Teen CERT Instructor, Mrs. Crouch, for her leadership, time and commitment to preparing our students for this incredible experience. Also - thank you to the PTA for providing morning refreshments for our First Responder volunteers. We are so grateful for all who made this memorable day possible!

WHAT IS THE BIG DAY OF GIVING? The Big Day of Giving is a 24-hour giving challenge that brings the region together to support the nonprofits that serve our community. Our Outdoor Garden Classroom participates in this fundraiser. The goals this year for the garden include:
Mural: We will be refurbishing the display boards behind the amphitheater with a garden related mural estimated at $1,200.
Garden Docent Program: Through this program, our students learn hands-on about planting and harvesting healthy foods. Funds for supplies, lesson materials, and paid docents estimated at $3,000 annually.
Garden Maintenance & Repair: The wear and tear of hosting 300 students through the garden calls for mulch replenishment, irrigation updates, and plant replacement estimated at $700 annually.
Bunny Hutch and Run: We are in need of a new bunny hutch that includes an attached outdoor area for the health and safety of our bunnies. The estimated cost of this project is $800.
Bunnies & Vermiculture: We are lucky to have two bunnies as part of our garden family. The upkeep of the bunnies adds to our expenses, but the students love to watch and care for them. The upkeep of this program is estimated at $800 annually.
Thank you for helping our garden to continue to grow!
