Mock Disaster Time!

Mock Disaster Time!

On Wednesday, March 15th, our classes have the opportunity to participate in a mock disaster in support of the MMCA Teen Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program. Students in grades 2-6 will have the opportunity to participate as “victims” in our 9th annual mock disaster, while our 7th and 8th graders serve as rescuers. Students in grades K-1 will stay in their classrooms for their normal lessons. Representatives from the Rocklin-Placer area emergency response community will be present to supervise and assess our Teen CERT members in their response.

*VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! Volunteers are needed at 7:30AM on Wednesday to help with staging the disaster, victim makeup, and clean up afterwards. Instructions will be provided and it is a lot of fun! Thank you to everyone that’s already volunteered with Mrs. Crouch! To help keep us organized, we’ve set up a Sign Up Genius for all of the volunteers we are looking for to ensure tomorrow’s event success.

If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Crouch via email at lcrouch@mmcharter.org if you can help.

Thank you all for allowing your students to participate in this event. The longer we do this, the better the Teen CERTs seem to do, in large part because they have been practicing as "victims" for so long. The opportunity to preview the skills and learn empathy from being the victim has been invaluable. This is probably their largest practical life project, and we couldn't do it without you!

Thank you,

MMCA's Teen CERT Mock Disaster Team
